Welcome Cici to the family

We welcomed Cici (short for Cecilia) to our home almost a week ago.  She is so much fun!

DD was home from college over the weekend and did some studying and also some visiting with high school friends.........in between catching up on some naps and playing with Cici.  I did laundry and spent all of Saturday cooking.  DD took a healthy cooler of food back with her on Sunday afternoon.

We had our monthly quilt guild meeting a week early in order to prepare for the quilt show at the craft festival in Arrow Rock this weekend.  Everyone brought the bags they had made as part of the "It's in the Bag" challenge.  I didn't participate, but really LOVED some of the bags that everyone shared.

We also brought the projects we had completed from the fall nine patch block exchange last year.  I showed my Halloween wall hanging and my quilt.  I didn't get pictures of my things because I was holding them up, but did get pictures of the other projects.  It was amazing to my how many different ways the nine patches were used.

I have been receiving old quilt magazines from a friend and after I look through them I pass them on to my mom.  She found this lovely quilt pattern called Cinderella in one of them.  I had found the same pattern several years ago and clipped it from a magazine and saved it because I liked it so much.  It combined a nine patch and an hour glass block.  Isn't it interesting that we both liked the same pattern so much.  Of course, Mom already has it made and I've just been looking at the pattern for years.
Here is the first one she completed.  She left it with me to get quilted.  Notice that Cici is helping to hold it down while I trim the batting for it.

Here is the second one.  Why two quilts?  Well, she was waiting on me to bring my companion angle ruler up to do the hour glass blocks with, but went ahead and made the nine patch blocks.  The first set of nine patch blocks turned out a little small, so she made more the correct size to go with the hour glass blocks.  Then, not wanting to waste nine patch blocks, she made more hour glass blocks to match the first set of nine patch blocks.  I think both quilts turned out pretty well.  I've had this pattern for at least 10 years and haven't gotten around to making it yet, and she has made 2!  Can't wait to see them quilted.

I have been busy working, subbing at the high school and career center, and teaching piano.  Cici could see yesterday by all the things I had packed up to take with me for the day that she would be spending most of the day alone.  I think she slept on DD's bed most of the day.  Then, of course, she wanted to play with us in the middle of the night.  I finally shut her out on the back porch at 4 AM.

  1. Thanks for the Nine-Patch review! I can see tha Cici is well on the road to being an efficient quilt inspector.
