Kids & Kittens

It's hard to believe it's the last of April.  Things have been so busy that getting time to write a blog post definitely feels like a luxury!  We made our third trip to Rolla for the semester on Friday to attend DD's spring orchestra concert.

She is the principal second violin and had a couple of small features as solo or string quartet parts of the selections they performed.

This photo was at the end of their part of the concert - note that every bow tie is hanging a little crooked!

It was a hurried trip as the hubs had to load 2 semi-trucks with pigs Friday morning, we stopped at the hospital in Columbia to visit his mother who is recovering from back surgery and now a stroke, on our way down and left after DD's part so that we could head back as 2 more trucks of pigs had to be loaded at 6 AM Saturday!

DD's semester is winding down...........she's counting down the tests!  I texted this photo to her on the morning of one of her tests........

The caption - "Please, no more tests!"

No, I wasn't squeezing the kitten to get that photo.  I had just reached in to pick up a sleeping kitten and this was how she looked.......sort of like all of us look first thing in the morning!

Here she is trying to to figure out a way inside the care package we delivered to DD from church.

The FAB FIVE are growing and getting cuter every day.  I really think my quilt guild friend Judy needs to take Solo (the one on the box) home with her.  She is very sweet and has the most interesting facial markings.  She would make a good quilt room cat!

Speaking of quilt room cats............April's rainbow scrap challenge color was yellow/golds.  I did get 2 chicken blocks (photos later) made with some help selecting the fabrics.
Both Jason 2.0 and Cici were around to make sure the yellows and golds were close to their colors!

The previous weekend I stopped at 3 garage sales (supposedly looking for a night stand for DD's rental house), and picked up 3 irons - 1 still new in the box and a couple of paper-size boxes of fabrics.

Homespuns.........

And Batiks.............
Won't these look nice with the Batiks that my cousin brought back from her trip!  I did share the boxes with quilt guild friend Gina.

Other big news from last week is .............
MORE kittens!  this poor mama spent about 5 days walking around the yard growling at anything that moved..........dogs, other cats, grass, leaves, us, rocks - ok, so she growled at anything, not just things that moved.  She finally had kittens last Wednesday.  They seem really small, and she doesn't stay with them a lot, so we've kept the heat lamp on them to keep them warm.
Two blacks, a white, and a gray.............not the most colorful quilt!  The first kittens just seem so much bigger (3 weeks), of course, they had 2 mothers feeding them, so I'm sure that helped.

We have been on the go so much recently that Jason 2.0 has taken to waiting in the bathroom sink for me to step out of the shower in the mornings.

Not much sewing has been happening...........
We've been so tired in the evenings when we were home that the most we can do is sit in front of the television and entertain Jason with the laser light.  The Hubs ran him in circles for so long one night that the cat fell over sideways because he was so dizzy from chasing the light.

I am looking forward to a little slow down this week with some more sewing time and more blogging!
