4th of July and Summer Half Gone!

It's hard to believe the summer is half over............

Cici had to inspect the fireworks we picked up after the 4th for DD to shoot off this past weekend.  

Since the roommate who takes care of Jason was coming home with her, Jason came for the weekend too.  I admit that I missed him, but by the end of the weekend, we were all ready for him to go back to college.  He's there for 3 more weeks until summer school is over and will then be back with us for about 3 weeks.  The hubs, Cici, and I aren't sure we can take it.

We did eat our first sweet corn yesterday............I consumed 5 ears in 2 meals.  I'm going to have to start pacing myself!

Beware the Ides of March

I can't believe we are already to the middle of the month!  I was working with some basket weavers this past weekend and commented on the Ides of March and they had no idea where the phrase came from.  My inner English teacher sprang to life and had to impart some literary wisdom about the famous quote from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar.  So now we are all on the lookout for "bad" things happening.

 Andi's basket is turning out beautifully........she has added the leather handles and has it ready to rim.

Not as much sewing got done this weekend because we started working on 4-H basket projects

This is Andi.  She is working on a large basket that will have black leather side handles.  We both loved the base which was filled in with filler spokes.

She actually got much further than this, I just didn't get a photo.  We spent quite a lot of time designing the color pattern she will weave up the sides.

State Fair, Back to School, the Eclipse, and Quilts!

It has been a busy week.  I have been working taking reservations for people coming in to see the Eclipse next Monday.  There are about 100 plane reservations to fly in to the little Marshall airport (including 3 jets and a helicopter), and over 200 people coming to brunch in the Martin Center.............the visitor from the furthest away will be Melbourne, Australia!  I probably won't get a blog done next week, but will have many stories and photos to share later.

We had a quilt guild meeting this week and had a trunk show from Liz Granberg.  She does some beautiful work, very different from anything I've done.

Aren't these interesting!  They are much more "art" quilts than what I do.

Happy 4th of July!  Some things you just never outgrow.............

Gettin' Ready for the Fair!

So I haven't been doing much sewing the last few days.  I did finish cutting up all the scraps that were culled from my folded fabric and did some cutting for another project.  A couple of months ago Emily Hardwig from Red Button Quilt Company did a trunk show for our guild and we had the opportunity to shop.  I picked up a cute little kit to make a snowman wall hanging.  At our workshop on Saturday, someone asked if anyone had started any of the things we had purchased from the trunk show and no one indicated they had, so I decided it was time to get started.  I hadn't realized just how small it was going to be.............1 inch pieces!  I still have to draw some lines before I can start carefully sewing them together.  

DD has been working on 4-H projects for her last county fair.  Normally, she works throughout the year and has several things ready by this time.  However, with senior year and now a summer job, there just hasn't been the same dedication to the 4-H projects.  So she's cramming stuff in as fast as possible.  I helped her list and tag the things that are done, and was pleased to find that she only has about 5 left to finish before July 12th.  She is trying to create a BB-8 Cake for cake decorating (for those who are not familiar with Star Wars, BB-8 is the new droid from the recent movie).
